Dear Dixie Jr. Livestock Show Exhibitors, 4-H and FFA Leaders,

As we are just days away from the Dixie Jr. Livestock Show, we have heard many great stories about you and your projects! In preparation for the upcoming show, the committee would like you to get onto the dixie4h.org website to review the show rules with your parents prior to coming to the show.

Some of the rules which you should pay close attention to include:

  1. Required weigh-in minimums for all species as well as the steer rate of gain since tagging date.
  2. Sifting of light weight animals after showmanship and the requirements to take your animal from the barn.
  3. Requirement of showing your own animal during showmanship, market and selling your own animal at the sale.
  4. Attendance at exhibitors meeting.

There will also be a $15 fine this year for animals left during the show without feed or water. We understand feed is offered at specific times to your project. However, your project should never be left without the opportunity to eat or drink any days of the show, including the day of the sale.

As always, we encourage you to provide your own buyer for your project. We have a Dixie Junior Livestock Show Facebook Page, which has information about the show’s schedule of events, including the awards banquet and fun dance for all ages. Please share the page with your friends and family. We hope this will help you bring your own buyer, and help them better understand what a wonderful event the Dixie Junior Livestock Show is for the community. Also, remember to check out the fun pictures on Facebook and tag yourself!

We look forward another great show this year.

Warmest regards,

The Dixie Junior Livestock Show Council

The Utah Envirothon is on Earth Day at Zion National Park

Utah high school students will compete in the statewide Envirothon, an outdoors, hands-on natural resource competition on Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at Hurricane High School and Zion National Park. The Utah Envirothon tests high school students on their knowledge of natural resources in a competitive, outdoor setting.

The students rotate between five field stations where they participate in activities in soils, wildlife, forestry, aquatics and a current environmental issue.  On Friday evening their team’s oral presentation on a current issue is judged.

The winners of the state competition will go on to Pennsylvania to compete at the International Canon Envirothon, North America’s largest high school environmental competition.  Over 500,000 students participate in Envirothon events throughout the United States and Canada.

The Utah Envirothon is sponsored by the Utah Association of Conservation Districts, with the following major financial contributors:  Rocky Mountain Power, USU Water Quality Extension, Utah Division of Water Quality, Utah Conservation Commission, Campbell Scientific, and Utah Farm Bureau.  Technical experts and volunteers are provided by the major federal and state conservation organizations.
