Utah high school students will compete in the statewide Envirothon, an outdoors, hands-on natural resource competition on Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at Hurricane High School and Zion National Park. The Utah Envirothon tests high school students on their knowledge of natural resources in a competitive, outdoor setting.
The students rotate between five field stations where they participate in activities in soils, wildlife, forestry, aquatics and a current environmental issue. On Friday evening their team’s oral presentation on a current issue is judged.
The winners of the state competition will go on to Pennsylvania to compete at the International Canon Envirothon, North America’s largest high school environmental competition. Over 500,000 students participate in Envirothon events throughout the United States and Canada.
The Utah Envirothon is sponsored by the Utah Association of Conservation Districts, with the following major financial contributors: Rocky Mountain Power, USU Water Quality Extension, Utah Division of Water Quality, Utah Conservation Commission, Campbell Scientific, and Utah Farm Bureau.
